About Microtonal Guitar

Microtonal guitar is a type of musical instrument similar to a fretless guitar, created by adding short and movable tiny frets to the channel under each string on the guitar. The difference from the fretless guitar is that it has a fret. Microtonal Guitar was designed by Tolgahan Çoğulu in 2008.

Many musicians from all over the world compose with the microtonal guitar, and some perform live. Another method recommended by Tolgahan Çoğulu for people who are interested in the coma (microtonal) sounds of the guitar is to attach additional frets to standard guitars.

Tolgahan Çoğulu designed the "Adjustable Microtonal Guitar" inspired by the Vogt guitar invented by Walter Vogt in 1985 to solve the intonation problems of the guitar. In the "Adjustable Microtonal Guitar", all the frets can be moved through the channels under each string. In addition, the desired amount of frets can be added and removed from the guitar fretboard.

In order to obtain the coma sounds of the maqam to be played on the keyboard, you can start your maqam studies by sticking additional frets to the relevant frets with the help of adhesive tapes.
